Synology DS1517+ Review
Design
We see Synology DS1517+ as one of the Synology products that are easy to use. With all ports is located in the front part of the product, we can operate it efficiently.
Compared to other products, where we always have messy cords because it’s mess up the placement of the port, this one won’t give us that problem.
Features
50 TB is available for saving our data. This specification is quite significant for us. However, if you are not satisfied with the size, you can add more. Synology DS1517+ hard drive is upgradable, where you can add 15 more drives.
For supporting its performance, Synology uses Quad-Core 5-Bay NAS with AES-NI CPU. More than that, 8 GB RAM is also right there.
We also can upgrade it to 16 GB RAM. We are delighted with its specifications and performance. The 1,165 MB/s reading and 527 MB/s writing speed are satisfying for us.
Bulletproof and disaster backup recovery features are also useful features here. Synology creates this backup plan, which will save your data on the other server. And, it will be protected, in case there is an accident happen to your drive.
The flaw is similar to other Synology products. It’s very noisy. It sounds like you have been using it for a long time, even though you buy it new.

Synology DS918+ Review
Design
We love its small size. It’s so compact, so it looks great when we put it on top of our desk. Synology is using a similar design concept to their other Disk Station product, which is simple.
Compared to Synology DS1517+, Synology DS918+ has an even more straightforward arrangement, where you can find all its buttons and light in a close place.
Features
The compact size is equal to the size of the space inside its drive. With only 24 TB, we can say it’s quite satisfying. However, for personal usages, such as keeping your movie or images, we think it’s enough.
For the processor, Synology DS918+ uses Quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU with 4GB RAM (upgradable up to 8 GB). Then, with this specification, it can produce 225 MB/s reading speed and 221 MB/s writing speed.
Even though the reading and writing speed is quite slow, but DS918+, but has a Dual-channel feature, which works on H.265/H.264 4K video. The transfer data process for this video is pretty smooth.
Therefore, we can say this product is an excellent choice for individual needs. It also supports many different networks for sharing needs, from CIFS, AFP, NFS, and FTP.
The problem is noise, and the snapshot feature doesn’t work well. The noise is quite annoying. And, the snapshot problem makes this product work slow, frequently.
